Just some random rants about road ads

Anyone noticed the ads posters popping up lately in Riyadh ?

Here is the statistical break down i just made up on the spot:

33% is talking about spicy food and how awesome it tastes.

33% is about bank loans and how a low profit margin can break your back in less than 5 years.

33% is just price per minute to call other countries (from all 3 glorious companies!). broken down it points out to 3 countries mainly. India, Bangladesh and Egypt. (call me racist but srsly wtf ?)

can someone tell me when did Riyadh became the new Mumbai ?

Video: NASA Autonomous Lander Hovers in Midair, in Infrared Video

Hovering landers or drones look as though they’re suspended in the air, because you can’t see the vortices caused by the propellers or the heat emitted by the thruster, or whatever mechanism enables the hovering. Well, here you can. And it proves that the act of hovering is anything but delicate.
In a test earlier this month, this prototype NASA lander flew up to 7 feet for 27 seconds, proving it can execute commands autonomously, according to NASA. It was able to autonomously hover for an extended period, control its position and orientation and land successfully. NASA engineers were quite happy, as the video below shows.
It’s a pretty neat accomplishment, but it is made much cooler by the infrared view shown here. What seemed to be a gust of wind (knocking a NASA meatball poster off the test chamber wall) is rendered a huge jet of superheated gas.
NASA is testing this new robotic lander in a mission to design a new generation of small, versatile autonomous landers, which could conceivably alight on the moon or other airless bodies where a parachute would not be of use.
The next tests will take the lander up to 100 feet for a whole minute, according to NASA.

Japanese Museum Unveils A Giant Globe Made of 10,000 Live-Updating OLED Panels

If you want to see what Earth looks like from space, become an astronaut (or, barring that, a space tourist). For the next best view, pay a visit to Tokyo’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation where a massive, nearly 20-foot spherical OLED orb--the world’s first large scale spherical OLED--offers a satellite’s-eye view of the planet in super high resolution.
“Geo-Cosmos” is made up of 10,362 OLED panels that display continuously-updating satellite footage of our tiny blue marble, representing what our planet looks like from space in something close to realtime. It replaces an earlier model covered in LED panels, offering museum-goers a full 10 million pixels, a resolution 10 times greater than its predecessor.
And like any good museum exhibit, Geo-Cosmos is interactive. Touchscreens surrounding the globe allow viewers to tap all kinds of earth science data streaming in from all over the world, like simulations showing the origin of the March 11 earthquake that devastated Japan and the dispersion of all of that energy via tsunamis that reached all the way around the Pacific. See it for yourself below.
